Magic City Art Connection

I spent this weekend at the Magic City Art Connection. I showed my "Paris" and "A Day in Jerusalem" series.

Friday was slow, Saturday was great and Sunday was profitable. The rain held off until we were packing up each night and I met a bunch of cool folks. The best part, two galleries checked me out and invited me to show at the their galleries. I also got invited to judge a photo contest.

What a cool weekend!

Happy Passover

Happy Passover!

It's that time again. Time to put away the regular dishes and pull out the Pesach stuff. Time to put away the bread and eat matzah and of course it's time for the wonderful and important Pesach Seder. The seder teaches us how to remember Moses and the children of Israel's exodus from Egypt and how to cherish our Jewish identity.

The Dodgers Lost

Yesterday, Julie and I went to the Dodgers Game in Atlanta.

Once again the Braves beat us, but that's not such a accomplishment considering our record is 1-14 right now.

Oh well, the game was a blast. I love just sitting in a professional team's ballpark and watching the game. It would be nice to see the Dodgers win every once in a while but until that miracle happens I'll keep on cheering for them, just in case.

Katie and Lewis' Wedding

What a wonderful weekend! First, Katie and Lewis got married on Saturday.

Their wedding was at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook and then we partied the night away at The Old Overton Club in Liberty Park. The flowers from Carole Sullivan at Lagniappe Designs were awesome.

Katie and Lewis are just adorable. I saw two of my past brides there, Sarah and Courtney. Saturday was a lot of fun.

Z Book is Born

I just sent off my very first Z book! This is the wedding book that I've been telling my brides about. I found this at the convention a few weeks a ago and it's so cool.

I'll be able to show all my brides the Z book by the middle of next month. For most folks this book shouldn't be an upgrade in price just an upgrade in class.

I'm so excited !!!!!!!!!!!!

Grandparents Day

Yesterday, I photographed a bunch (I lost count at 60) of portraits at Grandparents day at ASFA (Alabama School of Fine Arts). I set up my trusty portable portrait studio and went to work.

The coolest (is that a word) part is this was pro bono work. It feels good to photo for a worthy cause just because it's the right thing to do.

Magic City Art Connection

Just a reminder that the Magic City Art Connection is April 25, 26 and 27th at Linn Park in beautiful downtown Birmingham, Alabama.

The most important thing to remember is that I (little Barry Altmark) will be in space #364 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring your friends, bring the kids, bring your credit cards. If you've never been, you need to check this art show out.

Today's Deep Thought

Jason Campbell

Monday night I photographed a roast of Jason Campbell at The Wynfrey Hotel.

What a cool guy. I of course know nothing of football so imagine my surprise when I found myself surrounded by football players and fans. Jason was the quarterback at Auburn University and then went on to be picked first in the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins. I got to meet him, his fiance and his wonderful parents.

It's nice to meet and photo a cool celebrity.

Meet Becky and Kellan

You've already met Becky when I did her newspaper portraits. Becky and Kellan are so cute together, they are so natural and comfortable. They also smooch a lot.

First, we played downtown and then we moved to Samford to play in the grass. Unfortunately, the bugs were not in a sharing mood. The bugs never got to Becky and Kellan, they went anywhere and were big time troopers.

I can't wait for their wedding next month.

Food Fair

This morning was the first annual Temple Emanu-El Food Fair.

It was magnificent! The line was out the door for at least 2 hours. There was homemade corn beef, brisket, challah, desserts and other wonderful treats. So much Jewish food in one place and there was such a crowd.

Down here in Birmingham, Alabama we don't get all the good deli stuff. This was such a treat.

Many churches came to the food fair and Temple Emanu-El's Rabbis and Cantor gave tours of the building and shared in our Jewish beliefs and customs.

It was a good day.

Diana Krall

Last night I photographed Diana Krall at the Alys Stephens Center here in Birmingham.

Not only is she extremely talented, but she's so cool! When I was photographing backstage after the concert Diana was so friendly and photo friendly. I think I got on her manager's nerves a couple of times but overall it was a wonderful experience.

Katie's Bridal Portrait

This is Katie, she's getting married to Lewis in two weeks.

We went on adventures in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens yesterday afternoon in search of the perfect light. Katie let me drag her all around the gardens when she must have been dying of heat stroke. She's a trooper!

I can't wait to meet Lewis.
