Jenny and Burns

Jenny and Burns Wedding at St. Paul Catholic Cathedral.

I photographed Jenny and Burns yesterday. Nice couple, they live in Jackson, Mississippi and came in to Birmingham for the wedding. They're families are from Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and Alabama is pretty much in the middle of everyone.

The weather was wonderful yesterday. First, the ceremony at St Paul's and then off to Rucker Place for the reception. B&A Warehouse catered and Rucker Place supplied the florist. After the reception Jenny, Burns and I went for walk down to Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast. Jenny and Burns spent the night at the B&B. We took some great photos on Cobb Lane and at the B&B.

I'll have their slideshow up in a few days.

Leah and Matt

Saturday I photographed Leah and Matt's Wedding at St. Luke's with the party at the Birmingham Art Museum.

This couple was so much fun! They love to laugh and have a good time. The vendors were great to work with - Janie from Gus Mayer did the girls makeup and Janet Allen made the cake and wonderful desserts. Katie and her staff from Kathy G treated everyone to great food and spirits.

Israel Bonds Dinner

Sunday night I photographed the Israel Bonds Dinner honoring Tom Lowder.

Over 300 people came out for the dinner this year. The guest speaker was Limor Livnat. She's a member of the Israeli Knesset and had a lot of great things to say.

The dinner was prepared by Rosslyn Bloomston (Creative Cusine) and then we watched a wonderful video testimonial about Tom Lowder. I liked the video for two reasons - 1. I made the video 2. Tom really is cool guy.

As part of Barry C Altmark Photography's entry into the video world, I'm making these testimonial pieces. They're really popular in the Non-Profit Sector as well as the Corporate world. It's pretty difficult to sum up someones life or career and keep your audience's attention in under ten minutes.

I'll put the Tom Lowder piece up on the website by the end of the week.

Can you say - 50?

Happy Birthday to me!

Yes, this old codger is a whopping 50 years old today. Julie woke me up to fresh Krispy Kremes and my parents called. Cool way to start off the big 50. We're getting Aron ready for his first prom and then it's dinner at Village Tavern.

Kind of low key you say? Well, first off I'm not a big fan of big hooplas and second, we already did the celebrating thing in Las Vegas a few weeks back. That was enough celebrating to last a while.

Got Golf?

I played on the golf course all day today. OK, I didn't do any of the playing, but I did get to spend the day documenting The National Kidney Foundation of Alabama Golf Classic at Ross Bridge.

Yeah, I know sometimes my job's a bitch. Barbara Jackson (Executive Director) and her crew put on a wonderful tournament. I can't wait to do next year's classic.

I love my job !!!!

The Big Art Show

It's official! I will be showing new works at the Levitte Jewish Community Center Gallery during the month of May.

The show's title is "A Fall Day at The Kotel." I have selected twenty pieces that reflect my recent trip to "The Old City" Jerusalem this last November.

I have also created a slideshow to give you a taste of what you'll see at the show -

Dinner with Friends

Last night I did something really cool. I had dinner at Lloyd's with about twenty other photographers from the Birmingham area.

Doesn't sound like that big a deal until you realize that the photographic community here doesn't play well together normally. Why? I don't know. I met a bunch of folks that I never heard of or knew of but never met in person. Mostly though, it was a chance to hang out and just talk to my photographer friends.

There was no talk of business or lenses, just some small talk and how are you's.

A big thank you goes out to Jim Little and Mark Lawley, who made this dinner happen. I look forward to doing it again.

Kim and Kenny's Wedding

Wedding season has officially started here at Barry C Altmark Photography!

Last night I photographed Kim and Kenny's Wedding at "The Club" high atop Red Mountain. I've known both the bride and groom for some time now. I've been lucky enough to photograph all their children's Bar and Bat Mitzvahs thru the years. Between them they have four kids and Kim's daughter, Emily is getting Bat Mitvzah'd next month.

Rabbi Jonathan Miller did a moving ceremony under the Chuppah while the sun was setting. This was a small and intimate wedding, only family and some very close friends. It was a lovely evening.

The Strand Family Portraits

It was a beautiful spring day yesterday. Well, if you are a penguin maybe. It was cold and windy and the Strand Family came into town for a family portrait.

We're talking folks coming from Iowa, Huntsville and beautiful Birmingham just to have their portrait taken by me. Is that just too cool !!!

Everyone was a good sport including the kids who must have been freezing. I meet this wonderful family six years ago when I did Lori and Scott's Wedding. Since then I've done their family portraits and documented the kids growing up.

Relationships - that's one of the big reasons I do what I do. I don't believe in making my clients just another number, just another job. Commercial over, it's time to play with Kim and Kenny.

Itzhak Perlman Concert

Saturday night I photographed Itzhak Perlman at the Alys Stephens Center here in Birmingham.

He's an amazing talent. His playing was superb and the acoustics in the Jemison Hall were fantastic.
